WHAT IS CRIME SOLVERS?
Winchester / Frederick / Clarke County Crime Solvers is a Community based non-profit organization that partners with law enforcement, the media and the community in the fight against crime. The Winchester / Frederick County Crime Solvers provides a 24 hour confidential hot line and offers rewards up to$ 1,000.00 for tips leading to the arrest and indictment of individuals wanted for criminal offenses.

WHO ADMINISTERS THE PROGRAM?
The board of Directors is comprised of citizens interested in deterring and solving crime who volunteer their time to oversee the operation of the program. The local law enforcement agencies and local safety officials form the Advisory Board. They investigate tips, make arrests, recover property and report the outcome of the tips to the Board of Directors.

HOW DOES CRIME SOLVERS WORK?
An unsolved crime is selected each week as the "CRIME OF THE WEEK". The facts are publicized utilizing the local media including newspapers, radio and television. Any individuals who have any information about a crime are encouraged to call Crime Solvers at (540) 665-TIPS. All persons (Tipsters) calling are provided with an identification number and their name is never used. The caller is assured ANONYMITY.  The callers are asked to SEE INSTRUCTIONS ON LEFT LINK "COLLECTING & STATUS OF  REWARDS".  If the tip leads to an arrest or indictment, the tipster becomes eligible for a cash reward of up to$ 1,000.00.

HOW DID CRIME SOLVERS ORIGINATE?
 
Crime Stoppers began in 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a reenactment of the murder of a gas station attendant. The local media publicized the crime and an offer of a reward. Anonymous tips led to the solving of the crime.
Today, there are over 1200 individual Crime Stoppers organizations in more than 20 countries. These Crime Stopper chapters have been responsible for arresting 600,000 individuals and recovering 6 billion dollars in property and drugs. Each Crime Stopper chapter is administered by a board of directors who approve rewards, raise funds, and promote the program. Crime Stoppers' success is dependent on a 3-way partnership between citizens, local media, and police.

The Winchester / Frederick County Crime Solvers program was incorporated on April 29, 1981. The local program was the result of a survey conducted by the Chamber of Commerce (Local Affairs Committee). That survey indicated that crime was a concern of the citizens of the Winchester and Frederick County areas.

WHERE DO THE REWARDS COME FROM?

 

Tax deductible donations from individuals, businesses, civic organizations and various fundraisers provide the money for these rewards. The Winchester / Frederick / Clarke 
Crime Solvers is a non-stock, non-profit 501(c) (3) charitable organization dedicated exclusively to fight against crime in our community.

If you have information about a crime that has occurred, please call the 24 hour Crime Solvers hotline at (540) 665-TIPS and provide the information to the call taker. Be as specific and detailed as possible.
